Death Cannot Hold Your Future

You wake before dawn to face another impossible day. The business that sustained your family has crumbled. Medical bills pile up. A loved one turned away from the faith. The weight of it all presses down as you stare at the ceiling, wondering if God has abandoned you. This is the moment when the resurrection of Jesus must become more than a past event—it must become your present hope.

Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 15:57, “But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” Notice the certainty: not “will give,” but “giveth.” The victory is already ours. Not because our circumstances have changed, but because Christ rose. When Jesus broke the chains of death, He broke the power of every force that comes against us. Death is the ultimate enemy, the final word that silences all other struggles. If Christ defeated death, then no earthly problem can ultimately defeat us.

This is why Paul can write just two verses earlier: “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord” (1 Corinthians 15:58). Our labour is not in vain. When you persist in prayer despite rejection, when you choose integrity despite financial pressure, when you love your wayward child despite their rebellion—none of it is wasted. The Resurrection has made all our obedience eternal.

Romans 6:9 declares that “Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him.” And here is the staggering truth for every believer: if we are joined to Christ by faith, that same power works in us. We have been raised with Him. Colossians 3:1 says, “If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.”

This does not mean your problems vanish. It means they are no longer your ceiling—they are your floor. You stand above them, not because you are strong, but because you are linked to the One who conquered death itself. When anxiety whispers that you cannot survive what is coming, remember: you have already survived the worst. In Christ, you have already died and already risen.

The Nigerian believer who faces economic collapse, family breakdown, or spiritual darkness must anchor hope not in changing circumstances but in the unchanging reality of the Resurrection. Christ is alive. Therefore you will live. Therefore your faithfulness matters. Therefore your tears are seen. Therefore your story is not over.

Today, when discouragement comes, pause and declare aloud: “Christ is risen. I am in Christ. Therefore I am more than a conqueror.” Let the Resurrection become your morning certainty, not your Sunday memory.

Lord, teach me to live today in the power of Christ’s resurrection.
