“But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.”
— John 14:26 (KJV)
It is Monday morning in Lagos, and Chioma sits in her office, facing a difficult conversation with her supervisor about a project that has gone wrong. Her hands tremble slightly. She has prayed, but doubt whispers: *Can God really help me navigate this?* In that moment, she needs more than good advice—she needs the active presence and power of the Holy Ghost, working within her to steady her mind, guide her words, and remind her of God’s faithfulness.
This is the promise Jesus gave His disciples on the eve of His crucifixion, and it remains ours today. The word “Comforter” translates the Greek *parakletos*—one called alongside to help, to advocate, to strengthen. The Holy Ghost is not a distant force or an occasional visitor; He is your daily Helper, sent by the Father in Christ’s name to dwell within you.
Notice three vital functions Jesus reveals here. First, the Holy Ghost *teaches you all things*. In a world of confusion and competing voices, you are not left to figure out life’s complexities alone. When you face moral decisions at work, challenges in your marriage, or questions about your calling, the Spirit illuminates God’s truth and applies it to your specific situation. As Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 2:12, “Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.”
Second, the Holy Ghost *brings all things to your remembrance*. When fear rises, He reminds you of God’s past faithfulness. When temptation strikes, He recalls to your mind the Word of God you have hidden in your heart. When you feel weak, He whispers the promises you have learned. This is spiritual memory—a supernatural recall that steadies your faith.
Third, this Helper is sent *in Christ’s name*, meaning He comes with the full authority and compassion of Jesus Himself. You are not abandoned. The ascended Christ has not left you as orphans; He has sent His very Spirit to live within you, to counsel you, to empower you, and to conform you into His image.
In Nigerian churches, we often sing, “Mighty God, mighty God.” But do we truly *live* as though the Mighty God dwells in us through His Spirit? Too often we struggle alone, forgetting that we have been given the same Spirit who raised Jesus from the dead (Romans 8:11).
Today, as you face your own Lagos moment—whether at work, in your home, or in your heart—pause and acknowledge the presence of the Holy Ghost. Invite Him into your thoughts, your words, your decisions. Ask Him to teach you, to remind you of God’s truth, to strengthen you. He is already there, waiting for you to lean on Him.
Lord, help me remember that Your Holy Spirit is my constant companion and guide.
