Your Mind Renewed in Christ’s Truth

How Scripture transforms your thoughts and choices
And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
Romans 12:2 (KJV)

Folake sat in the minibus on her way to work, scrolling through social media. The endless parade of images—boasts about wealth, comparisons of appearance, whispers of office gossip—left her anxious and empty. By the time she arrived at her desk, she felt inadequate, caught between the world’s demands and her own fragile faith. She whispered a prayer, wondering if God’s Word could truly change how she thought about herself and her life.

This is the battle every believer faces. The world presses us into its mould—the pursuit of wealth, the hunger for approval, the fear of missing out. Our minds become battlegrounds where lies compete with truth. But Paul’s exhortation in Romans 12:2 offers a different path: transformation through the renewing of the mind.

The word “renewing” (Greek: anakainosis) means a complete making new. It is not cosmetic change; it is reconstruction. When you feed your mind on Scripture, you are not simply adding information—you are replacing the old thought patterns with God’s perspective. As it is written in Philippians 4:8, “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” This is the renewal Paul speaks of.

The promise embedded in Romans 12:2 is profound: as your mind is renewed, you will “prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” The word “prove” carries the sense of testing and approving—like assaying gold. When your mind is saturated with Scripture, you develop spiritual discernment. You can recognise God’s will not as an external rule imposed upon you, but as something good, acceptable, and perfect. The anxiety that gripped Folake in the minibus—comparing herself to others, fearing inadequacy—loses its power when her mind is anchored to God’s truth about her identity in Christ.

How does this renewal happen? Through deliberate, consistent meditation on God’s Word. Joshua 1:8 declares, “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein.” Renewal is not passive; it requires you to read, memorise, and meditate on Scripture until it reshapes your thinking.

Today, examine one area where the world’s thinking has gained ground in your mind. Is it fear about provision? Anxiety about status? Shame about your past? Take that thought captive. Find a Scripture that speaks truth to that lie. Read it aloud. Meditate on it. Let God’s Word do its renewing work.

Lord, renew my mind today with the truth of Your Word, that I may think as You think and walk in Your perfect will.
